A good quality early 20th century German silver and guilloche enamel box, of flat rounded rectangular form, the base and sides with plain royal blue enamel and inset silver stripes, the lid with inset enamel panel depicting a pastoral scene with a gentleman in a red coat wooing two shepherd girls in a landscape scene. After an 18th century painting - 'La Musette', by Francois Boucher. The original now in the Louvre, Paris. Silver gilt interior.

Made in Germany. London import marks for George Stockwell 1927.

François Boucher was a French painter, draughtsman and etcher, who worked in the Rococo style. Boucher is known for his idyllic and voluptuous paintings on classical themes, decorative allegories, and pastoral scenes. He was perhaps the most celebrated painter and decorative artist of the 18th century.
