Early Wine Label Madera

A rare early George II silver Wine Label of plain square escutcheon shape with two attached eyelets to hold the suspension chain, engraved with script lettering for MADERA (A miss spelling of Madeira). The broadly rectangular shape with curved sides and re-entrant corners, similar to furniture of the period, is generally considered to be one of the earliest designs of silver Wine Labels dating from around c1735.

In good condition with no damage or repair, the uneven surface fault to the reverse probably in the making.
