A good George III silver Wine Label of down turned crescent form with bright-cut engraved border and oval cartouche surmount supported by swags and engraved with the crest and motto (Garde Bien) of the Montgomery family of Scotland. Tied ribbon surmount. Incised for Madeira.
By John Rich, London, c1784-5 (Incuse Head Duty Mark).
Blazon of crest:
A lady ppr., vested az., her dexter hand supporting an anchor, and holding in her sinister a Saracen's head erased, held by the hair, both ppr.
