George III Silver Wine Label 'Madeira'
Unmarked c1785
Photo 1 of 7
An 18th century George III silver Wine Label of domed narrow rectangular form with raised eyelets and bright-cut engraved border, the dome engraved with foliate scrolls, incised for Madeira.
Unmarked, c1785.
These domed rectangular labels from the last quarter of the 18th century, often made by the Batemans or Samuel Meriton, usually have pierced fret-cut decoration to the dome. It is quite unusual to find an example with the engraved dome intact.
