A fine early 20th Century Arts & Crafts silver Quaich, the plain circular bowl embossed with flowers, pierced stylised floral handles.

Incuse mark D.S.C.G crowned to the base and maker's mark 'M.S' pellet between in conjoined circles, for Millicent Sutherland, Birmingham 1914.

The Duchess of Sutherland's Guild of Handicraft was founded in 1898, by Millicent Duchess of Sutherland as The Potteries and Newcastle Cripples Guild. Art metalwork began in 1902, under the guidance of Francis Arthur Edwards. The Works were at Wilson St., Hanley, Staffs. In 1907, the guild was converted into a limited liability company under the name of The Duchess of Sutherland's Cripples Guild of Handicrafts. The activity was closed in 1922.
