Pair Edwardian Satirical Silver Pricket Candlesticks
Saunders & Shepherd, Chester 1905
Photo 1 of 7
A small pair of satirical figural silver Pricket Candlesticks, depicting drunken Scotsmen wearing kilts, leaning against lamp-posts, on domed circular bases.
By Saunders & Shepherd, Chester, 1905. Also stamped with registered design numbers: 465956.
Probably inspired by a contemporary quote by Andrew Lang; "Politicians use statistics in the same way that a drunk uses lamp-posts—for support rather than illumination".
Andrew Lang (March 31 1844 – July 20 1912) was a Scottish poet, novelist, and literary critic, and contributor to anthropology.
