Rare George III Provincial 'Elephants Trunk' Escutcheon Silver Wine Label 'Port'

An extremely rare and early George II Provincial silver Wine Label of chased escutcheon form, decorated with vine leaves, grapes and tendrils on a matt background, a distinctively large tendril centre bottom resembling an elephants trunk, incised for Port. With unusual link chain. Scratch engraved contemporary initials “C & A” to reverse. A very early Newcastle label that exhibits several distinguishable features apart from the unusual chasing. Note the wide plain border and the rounded horns.
