Rare George III Scottish Provincial Silver Boudoir Label 'Acid'
EDWARD LIVINGSTONE of DUNDEE c1795
Photo 1 of 4
An extremely rare and unusual small 18th century Scottish Provincial silver ""Boudoir Label"" for use on medicine bottle or small decanter, of twelve pointed star form with bright-cut engraved decoration, incised for Acid.
Acid is an extremely rare, although rather vague title, it is almost certainly for a medicinal substance. Benzoic Acid and Cinnamic Acid are mild stimulants. An Acid Elixir of Vitriol was used for Hypochondriacs and for persons afflicted with flatulence. See: ""Boudoir Labels"", by John Salter, page 61.
