An unusual Victorian Irish silver Table Vesta Case of plain rectangular form and of a large size. The internal drawer sliding out either way, but stoped by blocks underneath the lid at either end. A striker plate applied to one side. The top engraved with an Armorial crest and initials - 'F.M.B.' (for Barry) and dated 1895.
By Edmond Johnson, Dublin, 1895. (Johnson was Master of the Goldsmiths Company of Dublin 1883 - 1890).
The crest and initials of the Barry family, Ireland.
Blazon of crest:- a castle arg., and issuing from the battlements a wolf's head gu.
There were many famous Barry's, but I can not trace F.M.B.
