A very fine quality and rare mid Victorian gold filled Propelling Pencil made to commemorate the death of The Duke of Wellington in 1852. The barrel with intricate engraving including flags, spears and drums etc, with raised applied foliate bands, the slider ring chased with the coat of arms of Wellington, the dates 1769 - 1852 and his two most famous battles - Assaye & Waterloo. The screw off terminal revealing a rifled lead reservoir and formed as a bust of The Duke.
Unmarked but most probably made by Sampson Mordan.
Stamped with a diamond registration mark of October 20th 1852.
Complete with original silk and velvet lined red leather case.
150 mm open
110 mm closed.

Condition
In fine crisp condition with just a tiny fracture to the gold case around the base of the bust and to one side of his head. In full working order.
The leather case with ink stain to interior and minor scuffs.
