Victorian Silver & Enamel Calling Card Vesta Case Colonel Clark Forrest
A good quality late Victorian silver and enamel "Calling Card" Vesta case, of rectangular form with blue hand painted white enamel cover bearing details - "Colonel Clark Forrest, 5th VB The Scottish Rifles. Udston. Imperial Union Club", with engraved dates to the base 1888 - 93, opening to reveal gilt interior with presentation inscription - "From yours very sincerely M Sestran Capt".

Colonel John Clark Forrest was the Provost of Hamilton, Justice of Grace and Assistant Sheriff-Substitute of Lanarkshire and lived in various large houses around Hamilton including Udston and later died at Udston House on the 28th August 1893.
He was a prominent landowner of much of Blantyre and gave his name and that of his family to form John Street, Clark Street, Forrest Street and Logan Street. He welcomed the Prince of Wales to Hamilton Palace in 1878 and later Prime Minister Mr. Gladstone in 1880. In 1888 he became Lieutenant Colonel of the 5th Volunteer Battalion Scottish Rifles in Airdrie.
