A very fine quality and rare mid Victorian silver Propelling Pencil made to commemorate the death of The Duke of Wellington in 1852. The barrel with intricate engraving including flags, spears and battle axes etc, with raised applied foliate bands, the slider ring chased with the coat of arms of Wellington, the dates 1769 - 1852 and his two most famous battles - Assaye & Waterloo. The terminal formed as a bust of The Duke.

Unmarked c1852. Probably made by Sampson Mordan & Co.

Stamped with a diamond registration mark for October 20th 1852.
