Victorian Silver Wine Label 'Claret' - The Goldsmiths Company
A rare Victorian silver Wine Label of shaped rectangular or cartouche form, with feather edge border and six florets at the points, incised and niello filled for CLARET.
The reverse engraved with the crest of The Goldsmiths Company.

In Carrington & Hughes (The Plate of the Worshipful Company of Goldsmiths,
London, priv.print for the Goldsmiths' Company, 1926) there were 95 labels, one
probably mislaid because in 1970 there were 96 again - as follows - 14 (no date); 8
(1784); 1 (1805); 13 (1806); 2 (1813); 18 (1820); 18 (1846); 22 (1854).
It was decided to reduce the number and 46 were sold in 1970 and therefore today we
have the following:
