A very fine quality and rare William IV silver gilt Vinaigrette, of rectangular form with raised foliate borders, the base and sides with engine turned decoration, the lid with inset panel depicting ""Chatelar playing the lute to Mary Queen of Scots"" in high relief. The interior with intricately pieced foliate scroll grille.

The illustrated print that it is likely that the inspiration for the scene on the Vinaigrette is taken from, is housed in the National Portrait Gallery. It depicts Pierre de Bocosel de Chatelard or Chastelard playing the lute to Mary, Queen of Scots. It is a line engraving dated 1830 by Andrew Duncan, after a painting by Henri Jean-Baptiste Victoire Fradelle.
