Wine Label Claret Entire Putto Without Figleaf !
London 1807
Photo 1 of 7
A very good George III heavy cast silver Wine Label of “two Putti with jug and bottle” form, depicting two naked Putti, one holding a goblet and a flask, the other a basket of grapes supporting a scroll shaped name panel pierced for CLARET. Bacchus mask below. Quite unusually, the left hand Putto is cast complete, without a fig leaf to conceal the fact that he is quite obviously a male, as is more often the case.
Makers mark obliterated by piercing. London. 1807.
